Hockey Ireland acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities and government guidance, and complies with best practice.
Thank you to volunteers:
Hockey Ireland acknowledges the huge debt of gratitude it owes to volunteers in our sport, who facilitate so many players, and particularly underage players, being involved and enjoying hockey. We rely heavily on the time and commitment given by volunteers and paid staff. Without this, the opportunities for children and young people to participate and learn new skills would not exist.
Statement re Hockey Ireland’s 3 requirements for volunteers involved on a regular basis in underage hockey:
Garda/Access NI vetting is required every 5/3 years;
Safeguarding 1 or the Safeguarding 1 App Refresher course must be completed every 3 years;
A Sports Leader Code of Conduct must be read and signed every season.
Welfare Committee Terms of Reference:
The Committee is established under Regulation 12 of the Bye Laws of Hockey Ireland for the purposes of developing, implementing and monitoring policies and procedures for the protection of young people participating in hockey on the island of Ireland and, in particular, of ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations and codes in the area of child protection.
