Hockey Ireland extends a heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Trevor Watkins as he concludes his tenure as Chair and member of the Hockey Ireland Board on Sunday May 25. Trevor’s commitment, leadership, and passion for the sport have left a mark on the organisation and the wider hockey community.
In recent years, Trevor has guided Hockey Ireland through a period of post-pandemic stability and executive leadership changes. Under his stewardship, the organisation launched its 2024–2026 Strategic Plan – Unleash the Power of Hockey – a forward-thinking roadmap aimed at strengthening all aspects of the game across the island. He was also part of a national series of roadshows, fostering closer engagement with clubs, players, and volunteers, ensuring the hockey community’s voice was always heard.
Trevor has played a key role in recruiting a number of Hockey Ireland executive team members, helping to shape a strong leadership group to guide the sport into the future. His work to build strategic relationships both domestically and internationally has also helped elevate Ireland’s standing in the global hockey arena.
Reflecting on Trevor’s departure, Anne McCormack, CEO of Hockey Ireland, said:
“Trevor’s passion for the game is infectious. I have really enjoyed working alongside him since taking up my role as CEO. On a personal level, he has been a tremendous support in helping me navigate significant organisational changes over the past 18 months. His contributions have helped lay the foundation for future progress, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
This Sunday will mark the election of new Board Directors and a new Chair, who will continue to drive forward the positive momentum established over the past few years.
On the same day, Hockey Ireland will also see the conclusion of John Dennis’ term as President. John, an honorary life member of the organisation, has been a steadfast ambassador for the sport, and his service is also deeply appreciated. Additionally, Board Directors Rachel Barry, Ursula Kilkelly and Aisling Keogh will also complete their terms on the Board.
As we turn the page to a new chapter, Hockey Ireland expresses its sincere gratitude to our outgoing Directors and to both Trevor Watkins and John Dennis for their outstanding contributions. Their legacy will undoubtedly continue to influence and inspire the organisation and its people for many years to come.
