Hockey Ireland is delighted to launch its new Walking Hockey programme – a fun, social, and inclusive variation of the game that makes hockey accessible to everyone, regardless of age, health, or ability. Walking Hockey is designed for those who are new to the sport, returning after time away, or looking for a gentler way to stay active. With no running, no physical contact, and simplified rules, it focuses on enjoyment, participation, and building connections through sport.
One of the pioneers of the programme, Avoca Hockey Club, recently hosted a Walking Hockey Festival that welcomed players and clubs from across the country. The event showcased the joy, inclusivity, and community spirit that Walking Hockey brings, while highlighting its potential to grow nationwide.
To support the establishment of Walking Hockey programmes, grants are available to clubs through the Sport Ireland Dormant Accounts Fund. This funding will help clubs create new opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to engage with the sport in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Hockey Ireland now invites clubs and individuals across the country to get involved and discover the benefits of Walking Hockey.
