YMCA secure win to keep pace with Banbridge and Lisnagarvey in the Men’s EY Hockey League as Loreto go one point clear at the top with vital win over Railway Union in the Women’s EY Hockey League.

EY Hockey League Results – Saturday, September 20

Saturday, September 20: The first day of a double game weekend in the EY Hockey League saw Women’s reigning Champions Loreto grab their second win to stay top, while all three of last season’s top three Men’s sides recorded wins as their battle for the title gets underway.

In the Women’s EYHL, Old Alex and Pembroke Wanderers kicked off the weekend with a Friday night encounter, with Pembroke equalising in the dying moments and going on to win the bonus point shootout. On Saturday, Pegasus put four past Ulster Elks to secure their first win of the season. Loreto overcame Railway Union to take a big early step towards retaining their title. Portadown left it late to grab a 1-1 draw against UCD in Belfield, with UCD taking the bonus point in the shootout. And Queen’s University beat Catholic Institute to record their first win of the campaign.

In the Men’s EYHL, Three Rock Rovers bounced back from their round one loss to beat Leinster rivals Monkstown. YMCA came out on top of a seven goal thriller with Avoca. An Alan Sothern hat-trick helped Pembroke beat Cookstown. Lisnagarvey made it two wins from two as they put six past Corinthian. Banbridge closed out the day by keeping pace with their Ulster rivals with an equally impressive win over Cork C of I.
