Draws for league leaders highlight competitive Round 10 in the EY Hockey League

Saturday, November 8: Round 10 of the EY Hockey League produced another day of competitive clashes, as both league leaders were held to draws for the first time this season.

In the Women’s EYHL, reigning champions Loreto were tested in a fiery Dublin derby at Park Avenue, as Railway Union struck late to earn a draw, with Loreto taking the bonus point. Queen’s University bounced back from last weekend’s defeats with an important win away to Catholic Institute at Rosbrien. UCD’s trip to Portadown proved fruitful as they claimed vital points to move up to second in the standings, while Old Alex recorded an impressive victory over Pembroke Wanderers at Serpentine Avenue to keep the mid-table race wide open. In Belfast, Pegasus overcame Ulster Elks at The Dub in a provincial rivalry to secure valuable points.

In the Men’s EYHL, league leaders Banbridge were tested on their trip to Three Rock Rovers at Grange Road, coming from behind to force a draw through a late penalty stroke before claiming the bonus point. Lisnagarvey continued their strong form in front of home support, overcoming Avoca at Comber Road. Monkstown stayed within reach of the top two with a hard-fought win over Cookstown, surviving a late fightback from the visitors in the final quarter. YMCA also picked up valuable points with a well-earned victory over Cork C of I at Wesley College. Pembroke Wanderers walked away with the bonus point as Corinthian fought back in the final quarter to force a draw at Serpentine Avenue.
