Saturday, May 3: Loreto & Railway Union and Lisnagarvey & Banbridge will face of in a repeat of last season’s EY Champions Trophy Finals, following victories today in their respective finals in Havelock Park.
In the Women’s EY Champions Trophy, Loreto began the day by edging a close encounter with Old Alex in the first game of the day. Two goals from Emily Kealy saw Loreto edge the all-Dublin derby to clinch their place in the final.
Railway Union met Ulster Elks straight after. The league runners-up had to weather an early Elks storm before Lily Lloyd put Railway ahead to give them control of the game. A final quarter finish from Katie Mullan put the game to bed despite the continued pressure of Elks.
The Men’s EY Champions Trophy Semi-Final followed soon after, with Lisnagarvey facing YMCA. Garvey eventually stormed to a 5-2 win in a game that was closer than the scoreline suggested. Garvey’s deadly finishing proved the difference maker, with five different scorers finding the net for the Ulster side.
Banbridge and Three Rock closed the day out, a thrilling battle that saw Banbridge grab the last Finals spot in emphatic fashion. A brace from both Josh Moffett and Louis Rowe provided the goals Banbridge required to win the tie 4-2.
The sides will now prepare for tomorrow’s finals, with Loreto and Railway Union meeting at 13:00 and Lisnagarvey facing Banbridge at 15:45, both in Havelock Park.
