High-scoring clashes define Round 11 as the EYHL heads into the winter break

Saturday, November 15: Round 11 of the EY Hockey League delivered a dramatic final weekend before the winter break, shaping both tables heading into the midway point of the season.

In the Women’s EYHL, league leaders Loreto closed out the first half of the campaign in dominant fashion with a strong home win over Portadown to maintain their unbeaten run and become clear at the top of the table. At Belfield, UCD and Railway Union could not be separated, with Railway securing the bonus point after the shootout. Catholic Institute came from behind to defeat Pembroke Wanderers after a thrilling seven-goal contest, while Ulster Elks produced an impressive performance to defeat Queen’s University in Belfast. At The Dub, Pegasus and Old Alex battled to a draw after a late equaliser, with Pegasus taking the bonus point.

In the Men’s EYHL, league leaders Banbridge rounded off the first half of their season with a commanding away victory over Pembroke Wanderers to stay top of the table. Lisnagarvey emerged victorious from a remarkable eleven-goal battle at Grange Road, capitalising on a fast start and then holding off a determined Three Rock Rovers response in the closing stages. Monkstown continued their strong run of form with a win over Corinthian at St Columba’s, while Avoca secured valuable points on the road with a composed performance against Cork C of I at Garryduff. Cookstown also closed out the first half of the season on a high, securing their first win of the season over YMCA to strengthen their position heading into the break.
