Wednesday, February 25: A busy weekend of domestic hockey sees our EY Hockey League Division 1 & 2 sides catchup on outstanding fixtures with crucial survival fights on the cards, while cup competitions reach their final stages.
In the Men’s EYHL, Cookstown and Cork C of I both continue their fights for survival with battles against top half sides. Cookstown welcome Pembroke Wanderers to Camlin Park, hoping to close the gap on Corinthian above them to four points, while Cork C of I will hope to build on their recent league draw when they host Three Rock Rovers.
In the Women’s EYHL, Portadown host Catholic Institute, with the former looking to grab three further points in their quest for a first EY Champions Trophy appearance, while the latter will try to climb out of the relegation zone with a win.
In the Men’s EYHL2, South Antrim take on fellow Ulster side Queen’s University, hoping to take a second scalp in two weeks after their cup upset against Cookstown last week. Cork Harlequins travel to fellow Munster side Catholic Institute looking to continue their perfect start to the season.
In the Women’s EYHL2, Lisnagarvey host Ards in what is set to be a thrilling all-Ulster clash on Comber Road. Ards are enjoying an unbeaten campaign thus far as they pursue promotion back to the topflight, while Lisnagarvey are enjoying a debut EYHL2 campaign.
Elsewhere a plethora of cups hit crucial stages as the Irish Junior Cup reaches the Quarter Finals, and the Semi-Finals of the Irish Hockey Trophy about to take place this Saturday, while the final match of the Women’s AIG Irish Senior Cup KO16 takes place, as Railway Union begin their title defence with a tie against Ulster Elks.
