Saturday, October 18: A full compliment of games in the EY Hockey League offered plenty of close clashes as top sides continued their title charge, while several others picked up crucial wins.
In the Women’s EYHL, a strong second half display from Loreto saw them beat Pembroke Wanderers to reclaim top spot with a game in hand. Railway Union edged a close encounter with Queen’s University stay level on points with Loreto. UCD grabbed a second win on the bounce to continue their climb up the table. Ulster Elks took a bonus point draw away to Old Alex to secure two crucial points. And Pegasus overcame Portadown in the Ulster Derby to jump to fifth in the table.
In the Men’s EYHL, Banbridge returned to league action with a win over Corinthian to climb to top of the table. Lisnagarvey edged Pembroke Wanderers with a late goal securing them the points. Monkstown grabbed yet another win to keep pace with the league leaders, beating fellow Leinster side YMCA. Avoca picked up a vital first win of the season away to Cookstown following late drama in the final quarter. And Three Rock Rovers put seven past Cork C of I to solidify their place among the top six.
