Monkstown cause major upset in Men’s EY Hockey League, as Loreto come from behind to maintain their place at the top of the Women’s table.

 

EY Hockey League Results – Sunday, September 21

 

Sunday, September 21: A major shake up in the league rankings in the EY Hockey League as things stand as Monkstown hold out to beat Lisnagarvey in the Men’s EYHL, while Loreto come from behind to beat UCD to maintain their place at the top of the Women’s EYHL.

 

In the Women’s EYHL, Railway Union recovered from their defeat to beat high-flying Portadown. Catholic Institute got off the mark after holding Pegasus to a 1-1 draw, grabbing the drawing bonus point in the shootout. Ulster Elks grabbed two points on the road, winning their shootout after drawing with Pembroke Wanderers. Queen’s University overcame Old Alex on home soil to add further points to their tally. And Loreto scored two second half penalty corners to come from behind to beat UCD, maintaining their place at the top of the table.

In the Men’s EYHL, Monkstown caused a huge upset as Jeremy Duncan’s goal saw them beat Lisnagarvey. Banbridge took advantage of the result to take top spot with a win over YMCA. Pembroke grabbed their second win over the weekend, holding out to beat Avoca. Cork C of I got their first win of the season as they beat Cookstown away from home. And Corinthian left it late to beat Three Rock Rovers, Gregory Williams scoring fro a penalty corner to secure the points.
