Wednesday, October 7: Two top-half clashes headline this weekend’s EY Hockey League round 4, as Avoca and Pembroke face off in the men’s competition and Railway Union host Ards in the women’s, while six sides once again go in search of first wins of the campaign as the pressure begins to mount.
In the Women’s EYHL, the league leaders take on the current contenders as Railway Union hope to maintain their perfect start when they host an Ards side that look determined to continue to ruffle feathers in their return to the topflight. Loreto take on fellow Dublin side Old Alex as both look to build on their wins in Round 3. Pembroke Wanderers travel north to face Pegasus, with the visitors hoping to secure points from their fourth successive game, while the hosts target a first win of the campaign. Queen’s University and Monkstown clash in a repeat of their 2024/25 Promotion Play-Off as both sides hope to add further points to their tallies as they look to close the gap on the current leaders. And Portadown host UCD at Edenvilla as both sides hope to get their first wins on the board.
In the Men’s EYHL, Avoca host Pembroke Wanderers in a Dublin Derby as both look to remain unbeaten and keep pace with the league leaders. Three Rock Rovers welcome Portrane to Grange Road, with the newly promoted side hoping to get their first topflight points by causing a major upset against a title hopeful. Cork Harlequins take on Corinthian in Farmer’s Cross as they look to establish their home turf as a fortress in their pursuit for EYHL survival. And familiar foes Monkstown and YMCA meet as both sides hope to get their seasons on track after tricky starts to the season.
