Saturday, March 29th: There were no mistakes made by the sides leading the charge in this weekend’s round, as the league leaders continued their pursuit of the silverware.
In the Men’s EYHL, Lisnagarvey left it late to beat a stubborn YMCA side. Three Rock Rovers first half rout saw them surpass Avoca. Banbridge survived a late scare to beat Pembroke at home. And Annadale grabbed 3 points on the road against relegated UCD.
In the Women’s EYHL, Loreto squeezed past Catholic Institute thanks to a Yasmin Pratt goal. Railway Union put five past Pegasus to maintain their chase. Pembroke picked up a potentially crucial three points against UCC in their fight for survival. UCD continued their pursuit of a Play-Off place with a win against Ards. An Old Alex and Ulster Elks played out a scoreless draw in Alexandra College, with Alex securing the bonus point in the shoot-out.
In the Men’s EYHL2, Cookstown and Cork C of I made no mistake in Pool A with comfortable wins over Kilkenny and Railway Union respectively to lock down the top two spots. Portrane ended their Pool B campaign with a seventh win from a possible eight with their victory over Instonians, and Cork Harlequins put five past Clontarf to guarantee second in Pool B.
In the Women’s EYHL2, Muckross held Monkstown to a 0-0 draw meaning Monkstown must win next week to top Pool A. In Pool B, Lurgan fought back from two goals down to points with Ashton, guaranteeing their play-off place, while Queen’s University retook top spot with their win away to University of Galway.
