Level 1 Coaching Course – Dublin

The Hockey Ireland Level 1 Coaching Course is designed for coaches who want to lead and deliver group hockey sessions across a range of age groups, from children to adults. Building on the Fundamentals of Coaching Hockey course, Level 1 focuses on creating fun, safe and engaging sessions using the Play-Practice-Play coaching approach.
Over two and a half days, coaches will develop their ability to plan and organise sessions, provide technical feedback, create game-like learning environments, and support the inclusion of all players, including those with disabilities. Successful candidates will be equipped to deliver enjoyable, player-centred sessions that promote skill development and progression.
The course includes two practical pitch-based days followed by an assessed coaching session, with full attendance required to achieve certification.
To attend the course, coaches must be aged 18 or over, have completed the Fundamentals of Coaching Hockey course (with a minimum three-month gap before taking Level 1), and hold a valid Safeguarding qualification relevant to their jurisdiction (ROI or NI). In line with Irish legislation, coaches working regularly with children or vulnerable adults must also complete Garda Vetting through Hockey Ireland.
