Hockey Ireland, in partnership with the Irish Hockey Umpires Association, is delighted to launch the new ‘Fundamentals of Umpiring Award’.

We have set ambitious targets for umpiring over the next few years, and the Fundamentals course has been designed to be as accessible as possible, whilst providing education and support required to start on the path of umpiring.

This is also in line with what we are trying to achieve through our Women in Sport programme‘Leaders in Hockey’in trying to engage more females with our leadership pathways. It has also been designed in line with the current challenges we are facing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

To achieve your ‘Fundamentals of Umpiring Award’ you must take the following steps

  1. Complete your ‘Online Rules Test’
  2. Complete 4 sections online (Module 1)
  3. Attend a Live Webinar (Module 1 – you can book this once you have completed your online section by emailing info@hockey.ie – first planned for 10th March)
  4. Attend a practical workshop in your province (Module 2 – booking will be made available online in coming weeks)

Our target is that all umpires who take to the pitch in the 2021/22 season must have their online rules test completed. In 2022/23 our goal is to add in the requirement of having a Fundamentals Award.
